Using an Automatic Backup in Elite Payroll SoftwareElite Payroll Software is designed with small business in mind. Every time you exit Elite Payroll Software, an automatic backup of your company file is created. The automatic backup can be useful if you haven't backed up your company file to a floppy disk (or other medium) and the current company file is corrupt. The backup files are created with the extensions 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, and 009, in the Elite Payroll Software/Backup folder. To use a backup file, you must delete your corrupted company file, change the backup file name to the name of the deleted company file and then copy the file to the Elite Payroll Software data folder. Detailed instructions are as follows: 1 Exit Elite Payroll Software if it is running. 2 Using the Windows Explorer, locate the Elite Payroll Software Data folder. The default data folder is C:\Program Files\Elite Payroll Software\Data. 3 Locate your company file. The company file name is your company name, up to 76 letters, with an extension of .QPW. 4 Delete your corrupted company file. The company file has an extension of .QPW For example, the Sample company is named SampleCo.qpw 5 Change to the Elite Payroll Software Backup folder. (C:\Program Files\Elite Payroll Software\Backup) The automatic backup files are listed. Note that the file names are your company name, with a 3 digit extension. For example, a backup files for the sample company would be named Quick Computing Solutions Pty Ltd.001 to Quick Computing Solutions Pty Ltd.009 6 Locate the latest backup file of the original company file name from Step 3. The latest version is the version with the latest date in the Modified column—in order to ensure that you're renaming the latest backup check the time and date to the right of the file name. It may not be the file with the highest extension number. In the above example, clicking on the Modified column to sort by date shows that the .002 version is the latest version. 7 Rename the backup file to your company file name—the file name that you deleted in Step 3. For example, to restore the sample file, you would rename the file named Quick Computing Solutions Pty Ltd.002 to SampleCo.QPW. To rename a file:
8 Copy the QPW file to the Elite Payroll Software Data folder. This is the Elite Payroll Software Data folder from Step 2. The default data folder is C:\Program Files\Elite Payroll Software\Data. 9 Once this is done, restart Elite Payroll Software.. |
